Day 1: (D) HOME TO BATHURST Monday 25th October 2027

Welcome to our tour to Mudgee. We have a travel day ahead so sit back, relax and enjoy the journey. We stop for breaks and to purchase lunch before arriving in Bathurst in time for dinner.

Day 2: (BLD) BATHURST TO MUDGEE Tuesday 26th October 2027

We have arranged to visit a historic gold mining area this morning – Hill End. Formerly known as Hawkins Hill it was settled in 1851 and is now under the control of the National Parks and Wildlife Service. It was at Hill End in 1872 that the famous Holterman Nugget, the largest gold specimen ever discovered in Australia was unearthed. Most of the surviving buildings in the town date from 1872 and many – including the district hospital (now a visitor centre and museum), the Royal Hotel and some of the shops – have been restored in recent years. Even those buildings that have not survived are not forgotten – plaques with copies of Beufoy Merlin’s photographs stand on many of the vacant sites in the town, showing what used to occupy the site. We meet a local guide who will take us on a tour including the museum, the blacksmith’s shop and stables, the time tunnel and a visit to the underground mine! Our lunch will be enjoyed on tour whilst taking in the history of the area. From here we continue to Mudgee, an idyllic town nestled within a soft, green valley.

Day 3: (BLD) MUDGEE Wednesday 27 October 2027

Our first stop is to Mudgee Honey Haven, one of the towns major tourist attractions. Stocking a wide selection of honeys to taste, trial each variety of honey before you decide on your favourite to purchase. There is also a wide selection of gifts and local produce to browse. Just outside of town, we find Gooree Park. One of the most historic and picturesque properties, it has the enviable reputation of being one of the country’s leading thoroughbred grounds. Enjoy a guided tour of the stud, lunch and a wine tasting here. On final visit is to Arts and Craft Mudgee which is a co-operative gallery displaying a wide range of quality handcrafted works.

Day 4: (BLD) GULGONG Thursday 28 October 2027

Today we head to the former gold rush town, Gulgong, home to around 130 National Trust buildings. We make our way around the narrow streets that wind between quaint clapboard buildings, complete with their original verandahs and iron lace balconies. The boyhood town of great Australian writer and poet, Henry Lawson, has been shaped by existence as much as it shaped him. The Centre bearing his name invites us to witness a living memorial to this great storyteller and houses a fine collection of Lawsonia. The Gulgong Holtermann Museum will give us an opportunity to pour over the many displays depicting the towns ‘roaring days’. After an enjoyable lunch at the CWA Hall, we step back in time at the Pioneer Museum and discover the museums fine collection of pioneering artefacts and memorabilia from domestic tools to horse drawn vehicles. We return to Mudgee after an interesting day.

Day 5: (BD) MUDGEE TO GOULBURN Friday 29 October 2027

Late morning we travel to Oberon and visit Mayfield Garden, one of the largest privately owned cool climate gardens in the world. Nestled within a 5000-acre working farm, initial works on the garden were quite modest in scale but as tends to happen with gardens, it grew….and grew…and grew. We the chance to wander through the entire garden, experiencing the colours and growth including an 80m cascade that tumbles down the hillside. From here we continue to Goulburn for our final night on tour together.

Day 6: (BL) GOULBURN TO HOME Saturday 30 October 2027

What an incredible tour we’ve had! With our bags packed, we depart Goulburn stopping for lunch in Cooma before arriving home from a wonderful tour.

A minimum of 20 people is required for the tour to proceed.

All bookings must be accompanied by a deposit of $500.00 per person

The balance and final payment must be received 30 days prior to departure

CANCELLATION POLICY

More than 90 days notice: Full refund less $500 deposit

90 – 60 days before tour: 50% refund

Less than 60 days: no refund
